Welcome to San Francisco State University Distribution Services. Our purpose is to organize distribution of goods and materials from a centralized location.

Property

The Property Office tracks State assets and equipment through a procedure of tagging new equipment acquisitions and adding them to the SFSU Fixed Asset Oracle database, recording the make, model, serial number, description and location of both Capital and Expensed property.

This office is also responsible for making adjustments to Property records as assets are surveyed or transferred out of a Unit’s control, conduct physical inventories to account for all assets every two years and research records to provide reports to Units as required.

For information on reporting/updating your Unit’s equipment list or policies on acquisition, transfer, and/or loss, please review the SFSU Property Manual.

Swap Shop

SWAP Shop (Surplus With A Purpose) is the "Re-use" component of the University. SWAP Shop's goal is to divert campus surplus property and excess reusable materials (including computers, desks, chairs...) from the waste stream.

Reusable and refurbished items are redistributed to campus offices as well as to Bay Area non-profit organizations with 501 (c) (3) status, community/public service agencies and public schools. All remaining non-useable items are donated or recycled to the fullest extent possible. Through re-use, this program decreases the campus waste stream and increases diversion tonnage rates.

CAMPUS LOCATION
SWAP shop is located in the basement of Frederick Burk Hall (room 24).

OFFICE HOURS
Call (415) 338-6862 for hours of operation.

Non-Profit Organizations--with 501 (c) (3) -- or Public Agency/Schools:
Please set up an appointment to visit the SWAP shop either via email at swapshop@sfsu.edu or via phone at (415) 338-6862. A copy of the IRS letter granting 501 (c) (3) status to your organization must either be on file at the SWAP Shop or delivered on the first visit. To take any items you will need to bring a letter on your organization’s letter head, which also includes you tax id number, indicating the purpose of your organization and how the donated items will be used. The actual items donated can be filled in when at the SWAP Shop. You will have to remove the items yourself. Appointments MUST BE MADE AND THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION MUST BE PRESENT.

DELIVERIES/PICKUP
SWAP Shop cannot provide deliveries or pickups. Please complete the work order request at http://www.sfsu.edu/~plantops/ServiceRequest.htm, or call the Customer Service Center at (415) 338-1568, to arrange for Moving Services to pickup/deliver.

BRINGING ITEMS TO THE SWAP SHOP
PLEASE CALL 8-6862 and listen to the current hours, detailed in the voicemail greeting, prior to bringing items to the SWAP Shop. If the hours change due to illness, or other reason, an extended absence message is left on the voicemail indicating the new hours or unscheduled closure days. To place surplus items in the SWAP Shop, a Survey Form must be completed, signed by the appropriate person, and brought with the item(s) to the SWAP Shop.
For furniture, always call first and verify that your item(s) can be accepted as the furniture room is at capacity much of the time. We do not accept all types of furniture – just those items being requested by faculty and staff. All items must be in working order and in a condition that someone else will want to reuse. Broken items will NOT be accepted. NEVER LEAVE ITEMS IN THE HALLWAY OUTSIDE OF THE SWAP SHOP! It is a violation of the Fire Code.

VISITING THE SWAP SHOP
Faculty and Staff may visit the Swap Shop anytime during the hours of operation. Once you find something that you can use, you fill out a simple form and the item is yours. You must remove the item yourself. Items may not be “cannibalized” for parts; you must take the whole item. You may put a “HOLD TAG” on the item with your Name, Department, Phone Number, and the Date. You have one week to remove items placed on hold. After one week, the tag will be removed and the item will again be available.

EQUIPMENT REQUESTS
You may request equipment using our on-line Form and we will check to see if it is available. The form is in PDF format If you do not have Adobe Acrobat, please go to the SFSU software download site to acquire.
